Lovable vs Bolt: which costs less to build an app?
Last checked against official pricing pages: 2026-10-16. Prices in USD.
Both entry paid plans are $25/month, but they meter usage very differently. Lovable charges credits per message (scaled by task complexity); Bolt charges tokens, and token use grows with the size of your project because Bolt syncs your files to the AI on every message.

How usage is billed
Lovable bills in credits (shared balance for building, Cloud hosting and in-app AI). Official examples: 'make the button gray' 0.50 cr; remove footer 0.90; add auth 1.20; landing page w/ 3 images 1.70. Plan Mode = 1 cr/message. All plans add 5 daily build credits + 20 Cloud credits/mo. Monthly credits expire after 2 months; top-ups after 12.
Bolt bills in tokens (usage grows with project size, since the file system is synced to the AI each message). No fixed per-action rate; larger projects use more tokens per message. Paid tokens roll over one extra month.
Worked cost examples
Assumptions are ours and stated so you can redo the math. Lovable's per-message costs come from its official examples (0.5 to 1.7 credits). Bolt does not publish a per-message token rate, so the Bolt figures use an assumed average you should replace with what your own dashboard shows.
| Scenario | Lovable | Bolt |
|---|---|---|
| Landing page + form, ~40 messages | ~40 × 1.0 = 40 credits → fits Pro ($25), not the Free plan's 30/mo | Assume ~30K tokens/message on a small project → ~1.2M tokens → fits Pro ($25); just over Free's 1M/mo |
| Small app with auth + database, ~150 messages | ~150 × 1.2 = 180 credits → Pro's 100 monthly credits + daily grants (5/day) if you build most days ≈ $25 | Assume ~60K tokens/message as the project grows → ~9M tokens → fits Pro's 10M ($25) |
| Bigger app, ~400 messages incl. debugging | ~400 × 1.3 = 520 credits → well beyond Pro's base credits; needs a larger plan or top-ups | Assume ~100K tokens/message on a large codebase → ~40M tokens → well beyond Pro's 10M; needs higher tiers |
Rule of thumb: Bolt's tokens stretch further on small projects; Lovable's per-message credits are more predictable as a project grows. For teams, Lovable plans are priced per workspace with unlimited members, while Bolt Teams is $30 per member.
After you ship: automate it
Once your app is live, Make can connect it to email, forms, CRMs and spreadsheets without more AI-builder credits. Free plan: 1,000 credits/mo; Core is $9/mo billed yearly for 10,000 credits (checked on make.com/en/pricing). New signups via our link get 1 month of Core free.
FAQ
Is Lovable or Bolt cheaper?
Both Pro plans are $25/month. Bolt tends to be cheaper for small projects because token use is low; Lovable is more predictable on larger projects because cost is per message rather than per file re-read.
What does a Lovable credit buy?
Lovable's official examples: a button style change ≈ 0.5 credits, removing a footer ≈ 0.9, adding authentication ≈ 1.2, a landing page with generated images ≈ 1.7. Plan Mode messages cost 1 credit.
Why do Bolt tokens run out fast?
Bolt says most token usage comes from syncing your project's files to the AI, so the larger the project, the more tokens each message uses.
Do unused credits or tokens roll over?
Bolt paid tokens roll over for one extra month. Lovable monthly credits expire two months after issue; daily build credits expire each day.
