Lovable is a hosted AI app builder: you describe an app in plain English and pay in credits per message (plus Cloud). Claude Code is a coding agent that runs in your terminal; it is included with Claude Pro and Max subscriptions and draws from the same usage pool as Claude chat. They solve different jobs and meter usage differently.

How usage is billed
Lovable bills in credits (shared balance for building, Cloud hosting and in-app AI). Official examples: 'make the button gray' 0.50 cr; remove footer 0.90; add auth 1.20; landing page w/ 3 images 1.70. Plan Mode = 1 cr/message. Paid plans add 5 daily build credits; all plans get 20 Cloud, 4 AI and 1 connector credit/mo plus a daily chat allowance (chat pricing is a temporary offer through Oct 31, 2026). Top-ups: Pro $15 per 50 credits, Business $30 per 50. Monthly credits expire after 2 months; top-ups after 12.
Claude Code on Pro/Max is covered by the subscription with usage limits that reset on a rolling window; there is no published per-message credit price. Usage beyond limits can use usage credits billed at API rates (per Anthropic).

Assumptions are labeled. Lovable credit math uses its official 0.5–1.7 range. Claude scenarios compare subscription stickers only, because Anthropic does not publish a fixed message quota.

Rule of thumb: pick Lovable when you want a hosted builder with predictable per-message credits. Pick Claude Code when you are already comfortable in a terminal and want an agent on a flat Pro/Max subscription (with usage limits). Many developers use both for different stages.
